Hair Loss Treatment for Women in India
Hair Loss Treatment for Women in India
Female pattern hair loss (FPHL) is a distinctive form of hair loss that occurs in women with androgenetic alopecia. Many women are affected by FPHL. In fact, around 40% of women by age 50 show signs of hair loss and less than 45% of women actually reach the age of 80 with a full head of hair.
Female pattern hair loss is a kind of baldness that affects women. This is different from male pattern hair loss in various ways and happens in various stages.
- Stage 1: Slight or no hair loss.
- Stage 2: The mid part of the forehead and hair starts getting widened.
- Stage 3: With the widening center hair part, hair loss starts on either side of the center hair partition.
- Stage 4: Bald spots start appearing toward the front hairline.
- Stage 5: Extreme hair loss.
There are various hair loss treatments for treating female pattern baldness some of which are-
• Medications:
This is the basic step of treating hair loss in females. Over-the-counter medications like minoxidil (Rogaine®) and finasteride (Propecia®) along with shampoo are provided to the patients to be used for a couple of months.
• Hair transplant:
Modern technology requires the healthcare service provider to take skin grafts from their body parts containing healthy hair follicles and shift them to the bald area.
• Platelet-rich plasma:
This process involves removing blood from the body, processing it, and then injecting it into the scalp to stimulate hair growth.
• Red light therapy:
This procedure involves the usage of a low-wavelength red light for promoting hair growth.
• Styling techniques:
This is not a treatment but a way to hide the female pattern baldness. You can change your hairstyle or use certain wigs to hide your baldness.
Various causes may lead to female pattern hair loss such as,
• Age:
This is the major reason for such baldness. About two-thirds of the women face hair loss after menopause.
• Hormones:
The hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a type of androgen which is basically a group of sex hormones. In the 40s, 50s, or after menopause, everyone’s hormone levels decrease which certainly affects DHT levels too. This may, in some way, lead to hair loss.
• Genetics:
This is yet another reason why such baldness is common. If your first-degree relatives have hair loss, you’re most likely to experience hair loss.
• Heavy blood flow:
A heavier flow of blood during menstrual periods may also lead to female pattern hair loss.
• Medication:
There are certain medicines like estrogenic oral contraceptives which may lead to such baldness.
