Post-Workout Skincare Routine Tips

Everyone is aware of the benefits a workout provides physically as well as mentally. It not only helps you in staying healthy but also keeps you at bay from stress. It also helps in boosting collagen which leads to firm skin. A regular workout also improves blood circulation in the body which brings out the inner glow.

All this sounds well but it can reverse the benefits if the skin is not taken care of after a workout. It would rather harm your body if you skip your skincare routine. Hence, there are a few tips for a skincare routine that you should follow post-workout.

Post Workout Skincare Routine Recommended By Dermatologist

1. Wash your hands first

Whenever you work out at gyms, you get to touch various pieces of gym equipment. Your hands get filled with dirt and infinite germs and bacteria that you can’t even see. Hence, it is advisable to go and wash your hands before you do anything else. Doing this would prevent the transfer of any bacteria to your face that could cause acne.

2. Wait is all you need to do

The next thing you need to do is to wait for your skin to come back to normal condition. Workouts enhance metabolism that makes the sebaceous glands secrete more oil. Applying anything to the skin at this moment is going to block the skin pores.

The skincare products are designed to work under normal conditions, say dry climate, normal room temperature, normal skin, etc. After the workout, skin becomes red and hot. Hence, it is advised to wait for the skin to get back to its normal condition before applying anything, including moisturizer.

3. Go and take a shower

When your skin gets back to normal conditions, you shall straightforwardly go for a shower after wiping off the sweat. This is because sweat staying on the body for a long duration may lead to fungal infections that may lead to the formation of acne.

A shower also helps to cool down the heat released by our body due to a workout. It not only helps in preventing the breaking of blood vessels but also in getting the whole body system back to normal quicker. Hence, shower and drop into clean clothes after a workout.

4. Moisturize your skin

Moisturizer must be your best friend throughout the year. Workout and then, a shower would make your skin all the way more dehydrated and look dry, so make sure you moisturize your skin just after the shower. It is essential to hydrate the skin to retrieve the lost moisture to make it healthy.

The type of moisturizer you choose depends upon the climate and type of your skin. Moisturize thoroughly your hands, face, and neck. Moisturizing also helps in soothing the skin that gets little red and irritated after a workout. Hence, it is always recommended to apply a gentle moisturizer after your shower.

5. Never skip sunscreen

You must have heard numerous times how crucial sunscreen is for healthy skin. Never apply moisturizer alone, couple it with a broad-spectrum non-comedogenic sunscreen with SPF 30 or above. A good sunscreen shields the skin against harmful UV rays which are responsible for reducing collagen (a critical protein in the body that acts as an anti-aging agent for the skin).
Even if you cover your whole body with a full-sleeved dress, a thin layer of good quality sunscreen works far better. Some sunscreens also act as moisturizers and certain moisturizers come up with higher SPF so you can apply either of them and safeguard your skin.

6. Mists and toners are also very helpful

It is normal for workouts to cause rashes on various parts of the body due to excessive and constant rubbing of skin and building up moisture in those areas. Its best solution is to use a good quality face mist that helps in drawing moisture from the face.
A facial mist also boosts antioxidants in the body, such as ferulic acid, vitamin C, vitamin E, etc. It does not fail to provide you soothing and refreshing impact on your face. Same benefits you can avail yourself of by using a toner after your workout.

7. Hair care is equally important

It is essential to wash your hair with a gentle shampoo to get rid of excess oil, dirt, and sweat. The key is to clean the hair and make it free from moisture simply because sweat attracts more dirt and bacteria that eventually cause infection. It doesn’t mean you shall wash your hair every day, you can shampoo every alternate day.
Always use lukewarm water to wash your hair as any extremity could damage your hair. Also, don’t go for a blow dryer to dry your hair. Instead, use a towel to do the same. Don’t forget to apply serum to the ends of the hair as this would regain the luster of your hair and make it frizz-free.
